What the welding module does
- WPS and PQR register
- Every welding procedure specification and its supporting procedure qualification record in one controlled register, with revision history, the joint and position ranges each procedure covers, and the projects it is approved for. Superseded revisions stay visible but are marked, so nobody welds to a withdrawn procedure.
- Welder qualification records
- One record per welder per qualification: process, position, thickness and diameter ranges, backing, the test that qualified them, and the date. Filter the register by process or position to see who is actually qualified for a job before it hits the floor.
- Automatic welder continuity
- Log a weld and the welder's continuity date advances on its own. SteelQMS recalculates the next-due date per process and surfaces welders drifting toward expiry, so continuity is maintained by working rather than by remembering to sign a log at month end.
- Shop-floor weld logging
- Station QR codes open the log directly on a tablet or phone at the bay. Each entry captures the welder, procedure, project, piece mark, joint and date — the traceability chain an auditor follows from a finished weld back to the qualified procedure and person.

Welder continuity tracking, without the spreadsheet
Continuity is the record most often found wanting during an audit, because it depends on somebody updating a log for welding that already happened. SteelQMS inverts that: the log is the source, and continuity is derived from it.

- What is welding management software?
- Welding management software keeps the documents, people and records of a welding operation controlled and connected: welding procedure specifications and their qualification records, welder qualifications and continuity, the log of welds performed, and the inspection results covering those welds. The point is traceability — being able to show which qualified welder made a given weld to which approved procedure, and that the procedure and qualification were both current at the time.
- How does welder continuity tracking work?
- A welder's qualification stays current as long as they keep using the process within the interval set by the applicable welding code, and the record has to be maintained by the employer. SteelQMS advances the continuity date automatically each time a weld is logged for that welder and process, recalculates the next-due date, and flags welders approaching or past it so requalification can be scheduled deliberately.
- Do welder certifications expire?
- A welder's qualification does not simply expire on a fixed date; it lapses when the welder stops using the process for longer than the interval allowed by the code, or when their work quality gives the employer reason to question their ability. That is why continuity records matter more than a certificate on the wall — the record is what demonstrates the qualification is still valid.
- Does this replace our welding procedure specifications?
- No. SteelQMS is the register and control system around your procedures, not a substitute for engineering them. You upload the WPS and PQR documents your welding engineer or qualifying body produced, and the app controls revisions, ties them to welders and welds, and keeps the evidence together.
- How does welding tie into AISC certification?
- Process control, inspection and personnel qualification requirements in AISC 207-25 (§1.12, §1.13, §1.18) expect documented control of welding, records of inspection, and evidence that people performing the work are qualified. The welding module produces those records as a by-product of daily work; the requirements library shows which criteria they satisfy.
- Can welders log welds from the shop floor?
- Yes. SteelQMS installs on shop tablets and phones, and station QR codes open the log for that bay directly, so entries are made where the welding happens rather than transcribed from paper afterward.
